A press conference titled “Realising SDG 6 hinges on Mainstreaming WASH and WASH Financing” has been jointly organised by WaterAid Bangladesh, UNICEF, Simavi supported WASH Alliance Programme, PPRC, FANSA-BD, WSSCC,B, FSM Network, Sanitation and Water for All on 20 March 2019 at National Press Club in Bangladesh.

Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Economist and Chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) presented the keynote paper in the press conference. Mr. Alok Kumar Majumder, Country Coordinator of WASH Alliance states that it is inevitable to increase the WASH budget allocation to overcome the huge challenge in achieving safely managed water and sanitation in Bangladesh. In 2018, WASH finance gap is 510 Million US Dollar for SDG 6.1 and 6.2. Besides, increasing the level of financing in rural WASH is also very important to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6.1 & 6.2 by 2030.

At the end of the session, Mr Zillur Rahman raised 7 recommendations to achieve SDG target 6.1 and 6.2 in Bangladesh.
